Delightful Delis

By Zoe Robinson

You might be surprised at just how many delis there are in Streatham, all full of delicious, carefully selected goodies. For a lovely gift, find a basket to display your chosen delights and voila, foodie heaven!

Here are just a few of our lovely local delis, plus some great foodie recommendations from Streatham’s own celebrity chef Sanjay Dwivedi…

European cuisine

Korona DeliKorona stocks a wonderful selection of meats, cheeses, olives and row upon row of home-made looking jams, chutneys and sauces. They import from around Europe but make an effort to keep their produce affordable.

Great for groceries

Kredens polish cafe and deli specialises in organic meat and serves a full English breakfast.  Also on offer are pastries, pierogi and freshly baked bread. They have a coffee loyalty card and sell bespoke cakes for special occasions.

French fancies

Tour De France, as the name implies specialises in good quality food and wine from across France. The deli was recently refurbished  and whilst it’s easy to miss (being off the high road), Tour de France is most definitely worth a diversion.

Gorgeous Gifts

Thompson DeliFabio, the owner of Thompson’s Deli, has worked in Michelin starred restaurants across France and Italy – this is reflected in the quality and taste of their freshly made products, but not in the prices. Fresh chocolate truffles or a bottle of wine would make a perfect, affordable Christmas gift.

Meet the expert

Sanjay Dwivedi, of Iron Chef UK and former Head Chef at Zaika in South Kensington (the first Indian restaurant to receive a Michelin star), says his top Streatham foodie picks are:

Sanjay DwivediThompson’s Deli for our daily bread, pain au chocolat, charcuterie and cheese. They have a great selection.

Also, for vegetables and fruit, it is always Streatham Fruiterers; for fish it is always Fish Tale; and restaurants, Perfect Blend, Oishi, The Manor Arms and Waterfront.
